ZIPS will be honouring individuals and teams from its membership who have played a significant role or have made an outstanding contribution to the profession during the period January to December 2018
In addition, to recognise the contributions of our media partners there will be awards for media institutions and a journalist that has clearly demonstrated uplifting the Institute’s image and publicity.
The main aim of these awards is to celebrate and recognise individuals and teams who have made an exceptional impact on the profession in the last 12 months.
Members and Stakeholders are hereby invited to make submissions as per the categories
1. CATEGORIES & DESCRIPTIONS
The categories that will be considered are as follows:
i. Professional Awards (Teams and Individuals All Categories of Membership)
ii. Media Awards (Print and Electronic)
iii. President’s Award
The award categories and and the measurement criteria are as follows:
1.1. Professional Awards (Team)
a. Best Performing Procurement and Supplies Unit (Public Sector)
This category is open to all public sector bodies Procurement and Supplies Units (PSUs) covered by government procurement regulations and rewards the unit that demonstrate highest compliance to the Public Procurement Act and its Regulations and innovations within the prescription of the Law.
b. Best Performing Procurement Unit (Private & Not for Profit Sector)
This category is open to procurement or supply chain teams in the non-public sector. The unit that has demonstrated highest compliance to the company Procurement Policy and Process and applied great innovations that has brought benefits to the organisation related to Savings, Cost Reductions and supply chain management efficiencies.
c. Most Improved Procurement Operation
Judges will be looking for evidence of success from a procurement function that has undergone a substantial change resulting in improvement. Entries could range from the establishment of an entirely new function where little or no professional procurement function has previously existed to an established procurement team that has undergone radical change to operate a higher level of effectiveness
d. Most Effective Stores and Inventory Management Operation
This is an award that recognises Stores/Supplies Units that have showcased stores and inventory management activities that have benefited the organisation and thereby raising the profile of the profession
e. Most Effective Use of Innovation in Supply Chain
This category is open to procurement or supply chain teams showcasing successful technology projects that have made significant business impact. Technology providers may also enter case study-led projects where they have worked in partnership with the procurement organisation.
f. Best Local Economic Empowerment Implementation
Recognising the importance of local economic empowerment, this category rewards procurement teams who have successfully implemented policies and/or projects or complied with legislation that has seen operationalisation of government's desire or company policy to support local suppliers and manufacturers
1.2. Professional Awards (Individual)
a. The candidate must have demonstrated consistent performance in terms of delivering value for money in terms of thinking, savings costs and efficient execution of duties such that a project (or projects) was successfully implemented according to the stakeholders.
b. Best Performing Procurement & Supply Practitioner in the Private/Not for Profit Sector
The candidate must have demonstrated consistent performance in terms of delivering value for money in terms of thinking, savings costs, providing leadership, collaborative and efficient execution of duties thereby making significant contribution to the organisation.
c. Young Procurement Professional of the Year
This award recognises members aged 25 or below at 31 December 2018, who provide evidence of achievement(s) that is significant and beyond what is normally expected from officer / managers of this age and experience.
1.3. Professional Award (Individual or Team or Organisation)
a. Best Contribution to the Reputation of the Profession
This award is open to individuals or organisations who are making a positive contribution to the reputation of the profession, through their value contributions and the work they do to raise the profile of the profession or enhancing the profession’s reputation.
1.4. Media Awards
a. Best Media Coverage of Supply Chain in Zambia – Electronic (Institution)
This award recognises registered media house (TV and Radio) who have reported on and profiled the profession frequently and objectively through featured programmes, coverage of events, personalities and stories
b. Best Media Coverage of Supply Chain in Zambia – Print (Institution)
This award recognises registered media house (Print) who have reported on and profiled the profession frequently and objectively through featured programmes, coverage of events, personalities and stories thereby providing a platform to create awareness of the profession and the Institute
c. Best Reporting on Supply Chain in Zambia (Individual)
This category is open to all forms of media and recognises the journalist who has individually reported on and profiled the profession in general and ZIPS in particular consistently and objectively thereby raising the profile of the profession
1.5. President’s Award
Open to all members at all levels, ZIPS employees and stakeholders this is to the discretion of the ZIPS President.
2.ELIGIBILITY (WHO CAN ENTER)
a. Professional Awards
ü Unless otherwise stated these are open to FZIPS and MZIPS only
ü Must have been paid up during the period and currently paid up
ü Must be in good standing both at their respective organisation (if employed) and with ZIPS
ü Has not been deprived of any privileges or convicted or facing any criminal charges
b. Media Awards
ü Must be registered with an approved body
ü Has not been deprived of any privileges or convicted or facing any criminal charges
3. HOW TO ENTER
3.1. General Guidelines
i. You can submit more than 1 category but only 1 entry per category
ii. Chose which category you want to enter
iii. Read the category description carefully
iv. Write a 100 word summary
v. Submission must be brief (no more than 3 pages of A4), to the point, accurate and must speak to the category description (note there will be verification process that will be followed)
vi. Things the Judges will be looking for in the professional awards
ü High levels of Integrity
ü Compliance to procurement best practice policies and procedures
ü Measurable application of efficient supply chain methodologies resulting in savings and other tangible benefits
ü Knowledge share with fellow colleagues and internal customers

4. JUDGING PANEL
A panel of independent judges drawn from the purchasing and supply fraternity and other stakeholders (Zambia Public Procurement Authority, Economics Association of Zambia, Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, MISA Zambia) will be appointed to select the winners.

6. Awards Ceremony
This will be a high-profile awards ceremony to celebrate the nominees and announce and celebrate the winners. Guests will include delegates attending the conference, invited dignitaries, members of the press.
The Awards Gala Night shall take place on Friday 31st May on the last day of the 7th National Conference at the Avani Victoria Falls Resort, Livingstone.
It is My earnest hope and desire that this gesture, which will be an annual event, will truly spur on our members and all unto lofty levels and in sustainably adding value to the organization we work for, this is the true essence of this great profession. Value addition is almost sacrosanct in the procurement and supply function.

7TH ZIPS NATIONAL CONFERENCE CALL FOR TOPICS AND SPEAKERS
THEME: “PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND GOOD GOVERNANCE THROUGH ETHICAL PROCUREMENT PRACTICES”
The focus will be on sustainable procurement and national development pillared on:
Guidelines for Submission of Topic(s) and Nominating Speaker(s)
We are seeking creative submissions that will be on point, elevate the awareness of the role of the supply chain and showcase the value that the profession brings in practical ways.
1. Topic – You can submit up to 3 topic proposals. State the title and provide a short narrative of no more than 150 words clearly stating the area being tackled, how it is relevant. Click here to complete the nomination form

ZIPS 7th National Conference Organising Committee
As part of the 2017 to 2019 Strategic Plan one of the requirements is to improve the operations at the Secretariat is through improved service delivery.
We are pleased to inform the ZIPS Community that 12 ZIPS Members of Staff drawn from Head Office, and the Northern and Southern Regional Offices (see details below), were on Wednesday 30th January 2019 trained on ‘Effective Customer Service Delivery’.
This training was undertaken by renowned training firm, TopFloor and was done in order to improve Service delivery in carrying out the mandate and function of the Institute.
Key elements of the training touched on how to build long term relationship with customers and provided tools for effective management of customer relationships.
Upon undergoing this important training, ZIPS members and the corporate world are expected to experience an improved and better service delivery from ZIPS staff.
There is a famous saying by Warren Buffet that says “It takes 20 years to build a reputation but just five minutes to ruin it,” This quote effectively addresses the importance of keeping ZIPS members and the corporate world happy and satisfied.
ZIPS management realises that Customer service is at the heart of a business and in line with our vision of being A Nation of Supply Excellence we hope with this training our staff will provide an exceptional service leaving you the customer satisfied, feeling valued and respected.
